How To Start A Blog On Wordpress

SO YOU WANT TO START A BLOG

In the beginning I know it may seem very overwhelming and like you would not even know where to begin. But I’m going to break it down for you into simple steps that will help you build a successful blog – even if you know nothing about blogging.

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR FOCUS!

Choosing what you are going to blog about is important because it will help you to determine your audience. It doesn't have to be too specific. You can choose a  broad focus and then set up specific categories. Having specific categories not only helps to determine my focus but also helps me come up with post ideas.

STEP 2: CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME!

This was actually one of the hardest parts for me. I think it took about 2 weeks for me to finally decide on a name for my first blog. I just kept saying different names until finally I said Chic But Psycho and was just like yep…that’s it. Luckily, with Bluehost, you can set up your account before you choose your domain name!

STEP 3: CHOOSE A WEBHOST

A WHAT?

Okay so when you want to start a blog, you have lots of options. There's Blogger, Tumblr, Wix, Wordpress.com, Wordpress.org, Squarespace, and more. This is the part where I tell you TO USE WORDPRESS.ORG. I have a whole post on why you should use wordpress.org.

BLUEHOST

Step 1: Create an account

Once you’ve completed your purchase, you’ll get an email with a link to your cPanel (basically your homepage).

Step 2: Purchase your domain (a Bluehost account comes with 1 free domain!)

A domain is your URL. For example, my domain is www.katiemander.com. To create yours, click "Domains" on the top menu bar.Use the domain search to find out if your desired domain is available.

Step 3: Install Wordpress

Go back to your cPanel. You'll see a section that says "Website." Click "Install Wordpress." It will just take 30 seconds to install and then you will set up a username and password. Once you have your credentials, you're all set!

STEP 4: GO TO YOUR WORDPRESS ACCOUNT

This part can be confusing at first. To get to your wordpress account, go to WWW.YOURDOMAIN.COM/WP-ADMIN (insert your own domain.) Then you will be prompted to type in your username and password.

STEP 5: BLOG YOUR HEART OUT!
